This iconic town sits at the crossroads of Australia, where the Sydney-Perth and Adelaide-Alice Springs railway lines intersect. Today you’ll also visit the award-winning Wadlata Outback Centre, where a walk through its ‘Tunnel of Time’ provides the perfect introduction to this magnificent region.

Day 2 Port Augusta, Marree
Traverse the Pichi Richi Pass, a heritage steam railway line. Stop for lunch at Parachilna’s famous Prairie Hotel, a family-owned pub that was first licensed in 1876. Continue to the stunning Aroona Dam and admire its spectacular ochre-coloured pits, then call in at the ghost town of Farina before arriving at Marree.

Day 3 Birdsville, Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, Leigh Creek
This morning, board your included scenic flight over the Tirari Desert and Birdsville Track, heading for a brief stop at Etadunna Station. Fly over Goyder Lagoon and follow the Diamantina River to Birdsville. Here, take in the thriving community of this outback town on a tour followed by lunch. Take to the sky once more and absorb the vistas across sand dunes, including Big Red, the Simpson Desert and Warburton River, before reaching Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre. Rare outback rains have dramatically transformed the normally dry lake bed, and your bird’s-eye view gives you the most spectacular perspective of this unforgettable event. Following the changing countryside, fly over the Marree Man, the largest geoglyph and work of art in the world, the origin of which remains a mystery.

Day 4 Arkaroola, Gammon Ranges National Park
Travel to the Gammon Ranges National Park and journey across this spectacular and rugged country by 4WD. Be afforded breathtaking views across this ancient landscape, with its gorges, plains and lakes enhanced with native bush. Arrive later at your accommodation, nestled in the heart of the Gammon Ranges National Park. Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is a massive 610-square kilometre property designed to preserve a unique eco-system and its wildlife for future generations. It features granite peaks, gorges and waterholes, and is home to a wide range of species of birds, reptiles and mammals including the shy and endangered Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby.

Day 5 Wilpena Pound, Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park
Venture into Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park and follow in the footsteps of Sir Douglas Mawson as you spend the morning in the geological site of Brachina Gorge, an important refuge for the endangered yellow-footed rock wallaby. After lunch, the afternoon is yours to explore at leisure.

Day 6 Wilpena Pound, Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, Adelaide
The morning is yours to explore at leisure. Perhaps embark on a guided walk to spectacular Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre of mountains in the heart of the national park. Alternatively choose a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound to gain a true appreciation of this natural wonder (additional expense). En route to Adelaide, make a stop at Clare Valley for lunch. This evening enjoy a Farewell Dinner at your five-star boutique hotel.
